Modulate are an audio visual collective who first came together in 2001 through a shared interest in electronic music and abstract art. An affiliated offshoot of the club Oscillate, Modulate set out to explore the emerging art form of live processed audio visuals, using a combination of programming tools including MAX, Jitter and Quartz Composer. They performed widely at festivals and arts spaces in the UK and abroad, including at the centre of Contemporary Arts in Torun, SOMM Murcia, Flatpack, Supersonic, The Big Chill, AVIT, Ashton Court, Noisefloor and Shambala, as well as releasing Modulate 5.1 a DVD of 10 original AV compositions. |

Alongside these activities, Oscillate organiser Scylla Magda, together with the Modulate team providing visual and sound design support, continued to bring high end electronic music artists to perform in Birmingham, including Vladislav Delay (FIN), Jan Jelinek (DL), Monolake (DL) Frank Bretschneider (DL) Fluxion (GR), SKIFF++ (NL) and Francisco Lopez (Spain). |
